itting on a slope, one enters the existing house from the upstairs into a lofty double-volume kitchen, dining and living area. The open kitchen concept revolves around an irregular-shaped stone counter island with hints of grey and copper as a homage to the wife who is a coffee connoisseur. A raised timber platform with a custom wireframe chandelier separates the dining and living area, with both spaces overlooking a balcony with a view. The original stairwell is taken apart to allow more daylighting into both levels and is replaced with an angular timber and steel staircase that floats above a cluster of planter-boxes. The bedrooms and family room are located downstairs for more privacy but at the same time facing towards slithers of light and pocket garden spaces.
